Sierra Leone’s foremost philanthropist and popular grassroots politician, Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara affectionately called “Jagaban” has reached out to Christian leaders in selected churches across the country with a cash donation of over Le200 Million (Old Leones.)

This latest gesture by Jagaban was meant to support churches ahead of Lent Season. Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. The donations were essentially part of Jagaban’s unrelenting pursuit to promote peace and religious tolerance in Sierra Leone. Though a practising Muslim, Sheikh Mohamed Omodu Kamara cherishes the country’s religious tolerance and pledged to do more to support the Christian faith in Sierra Leone.

In Port Loko, the Assistant Priest for the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Rev Fr Simeon Foday Kamara described the Le20 Million (Old Leones) donation to his church as very timely as the church was in dire need of finances to renovate its edifice ahead a significant pastoral visit by the new Bishop of the Makeni Archdiocese, Reverend Bob John Hassan Koroma. At the St. James Anglican Church, Jagaban was formally accepted into the Anglican family with the presentation of a membership/tithe card.

“To the best of our knowledge, Jagaban is the first Muslim person to ever give support of this magnitude to our church” remarked a female leader of the church.

The cash donations, presented by the Vice President of the global Jagaban Movement, Abu Bakar Baturay and the home based National Coordinator, Sulivan Kallon continued to Tonkolili and Kono districts. The team which is still in the regions, meeting and fraternarzing with community leaders and ordinary Sierra Leoneans will return to Freetown to continue with the donations to other churches.

Stay Tuned!!
